When I compare my activations in POTA with the activation numbers in TOTA, there is a huge difference.
TOTA only counts backwards to October 18, and there is only one out of 16 activations there. The situation is similar on October 19 there are only two out of ten activations there.
The 82 activations prior to October 18 are completely missing from the figures.
I noticed similar behavior with my teammate DB4SNK, there are definitely activities missing from October 1 to October 5.
They’re just little things, but somehow they make the fight seem unfair because you’re never sure if the results are accurate.
and I’m very glad to have you on P2P yesterday and the day before in FT8 and voice. I’m having the same problem. I sent a message, but the reply didn’t convince me… I’m giving up.
In any case, since the beginning of October and up until yesterday, I’ve activated 105 POTA parks, including 90 ATNOs, and I have 2800 points… go figure! My result on the POTA website is quite different… especially in the European and French rankings.
Lots of activities too, as the BOTA Manager for France, for the UKBOTA Advent Calendar in December, and the World Winterfest in January.
Looking forward to another QSO today or tomorrow , certainly
Hi Patrick,
thanks for the P2P QSO yesterday, but you specified the wrong band for the QSO at 16:22. We had contact on 60m, not 30m.
Yes, I’m getting 28 POTAs at TOTA, but it should actually be around 106.
Apparently there’s a problem in the activation query routine…
Let’s see what happens.
The issue of missing activations is well-known, and it’s mainly due to the fact that we can’t get more than the last 25 activations from pota.app. For very active activators like yourselves, this means we can’t get the history from the beginning of the season (October 1st).
In short, we have no other source that the activations on pota.app profile page for this information:
Aha André, thanks for the information.
The POTA team cannot help you, as it is unable to add a note to its upload page stating that uploads are not desired between 03:00 and 11:00 UTC due to maintenance work.
The only option would be to parse a copy of the “My Activations” page if there are more than 25 activations at registration or on a rover.
It doesn’t seem impossible, and I think this solution can be implemented more quickly than any solution offered by the POTA team.
Just my two cents on this issue, which you will most likely encounter regularly. Especially since Rover Leopard or Lion are relatively easy to make in France.
Indeed, we could imagine a manual way to add activations, where the user would copy-paste the result of this page.
We’ll see if it’s possible to push it in the next release
I really appreciate that.
I’m very excited about the next update.
And one more thing… when I try to display the personal data of, for example, DB4SNK or DG6KP, I get
Ah! I haven’t been able to reproduce this bug, but I have a feeling it’s because the authentication is no longer valid, and you need to log in again. I’ll look into it.
Hello Heinz, and I’m very glad I copied you every day this week, even several times a day. Back from this POTA week in the Ardennes, I’ve compiled a short summary of the POTA activations recorded on this TOTA site for this week at the beginning of December, and what a surprise! I’ve taken the results from the first three.
The first team had 15 activations, the second 3, and the third no activations. These are teams with multiple stations, and I also compared them to a team with only one station, F6KLY, like mine, which hasn’t had an activation since November 17th and has a total of 18 activations since the beginning. My score for this week is 38 activations, including 22 ATNOs across 9 territories. I did a quick calculation of all my recorded activations and I’m at 87, which puts me behind the TLS team with a station that has 5 activations in total. In conclusion, the more I do, the further I fall behind. I’m thinking of leaving my team, my station, and my account soon to avoid looking ridiculous.
hello @andre
I’m adding comments to this field. If this is not desired, I can create a dedicated post, but the subject seems to be the same.
I feel that the scoring system is strange. I have the impression that the more points we earn, especially in recent days with new activations, the further behind we fall. We practice QRP pota with a backpack and a bike, and each activation requires a bit of exercise.
In addition, the solution proposed in the RN of version 0.5.0 by the pota.app API command is problematic, and pota.app does not document or support this API command.
Note: I have sent an email about this issue.
The idea behind the Tota website, while excellent and exciting in terms of being able to play pota as a team, has not been followed up with a proper system for analyzing activations from the pota.app database. I raised this issue with another team during park2park and then by email, and the opinion is shared.
My question: do you have an error-free system for collecting activation data from pota.app?
Not wanting to spend time on microcomputing or worrying about data collection and transfer, I plan to focus solely on my passion, which is outdoor radio.
Thank you for your response on this subject.
In any case, I congratulate you on this wonderful idea for Tota and all the great work that has been done, even though I realize that the evolution towards a small competition may distort the initial benevolent and artisanal spirit of pota.
Regarding the issues with points and rankings, I think the frustration stems from the established rules. As a reminder, a team’s score increases with the number of territories it controls. The game therefore favors a few activations across many territories over many activations in a single one. If an operator makes 900 QSOs in a territory they already control, it won’t increase their team score; they will continue to receive the territory’s daily points. However, with 900 QSOs, their territory will be very difficult for another team to capture.
These rules are obviously open to debate, so feel free to create a new thread about this if you have a suggestion to make the game fairer.
That being said, calculation errors are always possible. If, after carefully reviewing the details above, you feel the scores aren’t accurate for your team, please let me know. I’ll manually recalculate them to ensure there are no errors.
Finally, I’d like to remind everyone that this is a testing season. I’m delighted to see so much enthusiasm surrounding the scores, and it’s true that it sometimes veers into competition, but the goal between now and the end of March is to test the system, balance it, change any rules that might be frustrating, and find a balance that works for everyone.
Thank you for all your feedback, and let’s remember that the main objective is to have fun, in the spirit of amateur radio that unites us all .
Thank you very much for the clear answer, but as I had already used the browser console to get more information about this “Not authorized” message, I already knew the result.
Submitting the same command in a new tab gives the same result.
Note: tested with Firefox (Linux and Windows) and Chrome (Windows).
You can close this request, because I don’t want to waste your time on it.
I use my bike radio for my own enjoyment, and I don’t care about any API issues with pota.app.
By resubmitting the order, I obtain the JSON file that I will upload.
One question: do I need to repeat this process often?
I sometimes perform “a few activations” per day, and I don’t necessarily upload the logs to pota.app on the same day (I keep a paper log that I transfer to electronic format from time to time).
As for IT issues and problems, I already have enough to deal with on the IBM sites.
I wish you all the best for you and Tota.
Happy holidays!
Best regards,
–Olivier
Normally, you’ll only need to do this if you activate more than 10 parks in the same day, because TOTA can only see your last 10 activations and only checks your profile twice a day to update for new activations.
So no, in 99% of cases you won’t need to do this again
Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.
